Thanks to everyone who gave it a try and shared feedback with us on Discord, YouTube, and the GOG/Steam forums. The GOG Summer Sale is still going strong and the feedback from the Alpha demo has been overwhelmingly positive. If anyone else run into the same problem, this is the solution, lower the samplerate in Soundsettings on the Advanced Tab for your speakers (this value seems like it can differ for some users, so you'd have to try what works with your system). This art-less update is brought to you by Matthew Love, who is just tired of all the art! So there will be no screenshots, no concepts, no images of any kind! Hopefully the developers of Unity can fix this so I shouldn't have to lower the audio quality just for Unity-games to function properly. If I lower this setting to 24 bit, 96000 Hz (Studio Quality) however, then the sound works fine, if I then raise it back up to 192000 Hz it goes back to being garbled.Īfter figuring this out, I did a quick google and found out this seems to be a problem of the Unity 5-engine, it seems to have a problem producing usable sound when audio quality in the computer is set to 24bit, 192000 Hz, so even if my system and speakers support it (and every other game I own and play), Unity 5 does not, hence why I got the problem here with the demo.

In my Windows Sound settings -> Speakers Properties -> Advanced-tab I have the Default Format set to 24 bit, 192000 Hz (Studio Quality), this tests fine with the Test-button there and works fine with every game I have installed on my computer (and that's close to a hundred different games, old and new), except the System Shock Pre-Alpha Demo where I get just garbled sound shortly after starting to play. A couple of weeks ago when I first tried the Pre-Alpha Demo I had weird sound problems, and now today I finally looked around a bit more to see what could be causing it (only System Shock Pre-Alpha Demo was giving me garbled/constant noise-sound, when no other game or program on my PC did the same).Īfter looking around a little bit, I noticed this:
